Seira McCarthy
Seira McCarthy is a Japanese/American Music Designer and Audio Engineer based in Tokyo, Japan and San Francisco, CA. Having been in the industry for more than 8 years, she professionalizes in designing and producing Interactive Music and Audio Systems for video games and multimedia. She also strives to bring her international professional experience and creative passion to bridge the international gap in game development/media production across the world. Originally born and raised in Tokyo, Japan which is the center city for music and video games, she found her passion in entertainment early on. After graduating from San Francisco Conservatory of Music, she joined Sony PlayStation Studios as the Music and Dialogue Designer, and worked/shipped AAA game titles including Death Stranding 2 (currently in production with Kojima Productions), Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (Insomniac Games), God of War: Ragnarök (Santa Monica Studios), Concord (Firewalk Studios), Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut (Sucker Punch Productions), and Call of Duty: Vanguard (Sledgehammer Games). "My passion is Game Music Design for Interactive Music Systems. The first time I held a game controller, I remember I fought a terrifying zombie spider from the first Resident Evil game.. and defeated it on my first try. The music and sound scared me to my core. My hands were shaking after I finished the battle - it was as if the spider was right there... and that's the moment I knew I wanted to create more of that experience someday. Did I mention I was about 5 years old?" Seira has been in the entertainment industry for more than 8 years. In 2021, she joined Sony Interactive Entertainment PlayStation Studios as the Music and Dialogue Designer. Her doors to game development opened in 2018, when she joined the very same Music team as their Music Production Intern. Before the internship at PlayStation, since 2016 Seira was the Recording Engineer/Studio Manager for the Recording Services at San Francisco Conservatory of Music, as well as the Audio Test Engineer for Dolby Laboratories. In 2020, she graduated from San Francisco Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor of Music degree in Technology and Applied Composition, where she studied audio/recording engineering, music production, and composition. Before returning to game development with PlayStation in 2021, Seira was an Audio Engineer who contracted with companies like Aspen Music Festival, Internet Archive, Calm.com, and 99% Invisible. Now, Seira professionalizes in designing and producing Interactive Music systems for AAA video games.
